Dear FOCUS Parents,
This is the scale I will use to grade FOCUS class work. It is based on the performance levels detailed below. These are the same scores that will be used on the Focus Progress Report each nine weeks. All graded work will be marked with one of these performance levels and most will have a rubric or checklist attached that will correlate with the descriptions. Other work will be checked by the teacher and/or gone over in class, but a grade will not be recorded.
In addition to class work, your child will receive a score for process assessment and work habits in the FOCUS classroom. I use the same guidelines as the rest of the special areas department. Further explanation of this policy can be found below.

Performance Levels
Level 4 - Student consistently shows initiative and commitment to tasks, goes beyond AKS extension requirements, and works in a timely, self-sufficient manner.
Level 3 - Student consistently demonstrates mastery of AKS extensions and/or successfully completes required tasks in allocated time.
Level 2 - Student inconsistently demonstrates mastery of AKS extensions and/or has difficulty completing required tasks in allocated time.
Level 1 - Student does not exhibit sufficient mastery of AKS extensions and/or is unable to complete required tasks in allocated time.
Grading Scale for DCES Special Area Classes
The following scale will be used to assess students:
E= Surpasses standards
S= Satisfactory/meets standards
N= Needs improvement
U = Unsatisfactory
· Please note that the grade of E is reserved for students who are truly surpassing the expectations for a FOCUS student.
· The majority of students will receive an S in FOCUS.
· If your student is meeting the expectations for his/her grade level, he/she will receive a grade of S.
